I don’t normally post political things on my blog, but this is different. My father has worked at Tamms since it’s opening. Everyone that wants this prison to close is delusional in the idea that will solve every problem with the IDOC. Closing this prison will only over crowd the prison system even more and guard attacks and deaths will only increase. The prisoners inside Tamms are not incarcerated there for petty theft. They have either attacked a guard, killed a guard, attacked another inmate, or killed another inmate. Many cannot be integrated back into normal, functioning society. There are of course exceptions. Everyone that is so concerned with the “humanity” of the prison should house one of the violent inmates in their homes. Maybe then they will understand why this prison is needed. Closing Tamms will not solve any problems and Quinn needs to wake up and realize that if he goes through with this decision, there will be blood on his hands. The blood of hard working men and women whose lives could have been spared. Although even keeping Tamms open will not prevent all guard attacks, they will be reduced.
